Steph & Shiraz

Shiraz entered GAP back in May of 2023. When she entered, I fell in love with her immediately!

Unfortunately I was just about to go away on a 4.5-week trip overseas, so I told myself, if she was there when I get back, it was a sign.

When I got back, she was still there! My partner and I had just gotten a puppy 1 year prior and weren’t ready to get another dog so quickly. So, when I found out she needed to go through our Behaviour Rehabilitation Program (BRP), I told myself again – If she aced the program and passed on the other side, it’s a sign. Well! She smashed through BRP with flying colours, and the universe was once again telling me, she was meant for us.

Once she had passed, she got stuck in vet status for a while due to an autoimmune disease. I took this as my shot to take her home for a medical foster and trial her with our whippet, Dorito. She fit in seamlessly! And from that first day of foster, I knew she had found her forever home with us.

We’re approaching almost two years with our Shirazzle Dazzle and she’s still finding new ways to enrich our lives. She loves nothing more than an afternoon long roach on the couch, especially nowadays where she also expects a belly rub. Her favourite toy is a green shark that she loves to throw around followed by tornadoes in the living room. She’s almost 8 now and has no signs of slowing down!

Since being adopted, we’ve put in a lot of additional behaviour work with her to the point where she now has a part time job with GAP. She comes along to public events, workplace visits, and even helps train our new class of helper dogs to gain confidence around a nice, quiet greyhound. A full circle moment as it was the helper dogs who helped train her during her BRP days.

Everyone we meet falls madly in love with her and usually requests that if we ‘find another Shiraz’, to hold it for them.

Adopting her was one of the best decisions of my life and I can’t imagine our little family without her.

4 years old

Maverick is a handsome greyhound with a big personality and an independent streak. Personable with the people he knows and trusts, Maverick enjoys being part of the action while still appreciating his own space. He can come across as a little aloof at first, but once he's comfortable, his playful side shines through. He loves tasty treats, enjoys stretching his legs with the occasional burst of zoomies, and is sure to bring plenty of laughter and character to his new home. Maverick is looking for a home with adults or a family with children aged 10 years and over. He would be best suited as an only dog, or with a calm medium to large canine companion following a successful introduction. Having completed behavioural rehabilitation, Maverick has made great progress and is ready for a fresh start with an understanding adopter who will continue to support him. Due to his history, he cannot live with small dogs, cats, or other small animals. He is not suited to a home with elderly residents and will thrive in an environment that respects his boundaries while allowing him to build confidence and enjoy life at his own pace.
