Ange

Ange has been part of the GAP family for over 20 years, starting her journey back in 2003 with her first “foster fail” – the legendary Roger.

What’s your name, how do you volunteer with GAP, and when did you first start volunteering with us?

Ange Hamilton - Community engagement volunteer. First foster dog failure Roger in 2003 Lochie 2nd foster fail  & then decided it was clear I couldn't send foster dogs back !  and instead decided to do community engagement as it was safer ! with my girls Dash, Miss Mo and now Maisie who have all been / are GAP volunteer girls !

What made you decide to become a GAP volunteer?

Wanted to be a part of showing  how great our Greyhounds are as pets and helping create awareness of the breed and what they have to offer also the GAP program and all it does to re-home & match the right Greyhound to the right forever family

What’s your favourite part of being a GAP volunteer?

Watching them get their shiny new green collars on adoption days - it's a brilliant feeling !!

What’s your best story or memory from your time volunteering with us?

The best moments are the kids at events meeting our dogs & the many kids over the years that have been scared of dogs in general & the first dog they end up patting is one of our Greyhounds and  that's it - they only have eyes for Greyhounds !!

What would you say to anyone thinking of volunteering with GAP?

Volunteering is one of my loves and I'll talk Greyhounds all day to anyone who's interested and wants to hear about the dogs and the GAP program ! The friendships we've made along the way with other volunteers are awesome and very special. From the foster carers to us handling  dogs up for adoption or our own dogs at events - so many people are involved with every dog along the way to find them the right fit for their new home - it's a great feeling to be apart of !

Romeo came into our lives at the end of January after things hadn’t quite worked out in a previous home. We were told he just needed a chance, and a bit of time, and those words couldn’t have been more true.

CJ

6 years old

With a unusual race name like "Sprinkler System", you know CJ will be a talking point to all your friends! CJ is a quiet but loveable boy that can be a little bit of a slow burn (or leak!) to start with. But that doesnt stop him from leaning on you for pats. He is one of those loyal types that once you are mates, you are mates for life. We think he may suit living with another dog friend and may be even children 10 and over. He may even suit living with full time workers or possibly a cat!

Todd is a handsome boy that is a little bit of an onion - we mean you have to peel back the layers to see the real Todd. He can be a bit shy and subdued at first but once he starts to get to know you, you have a best friend for life. We think he may suit living with another canine companion of any size and children 10 and over. He may also benefit from a quieter home as we feel like this guy likes his 'down time'. Todd may also be ok with full time workers and maybe even a cat!

Echo ARP

4 years old

Can you hear an Echo? Its saying “Hey you! I’m ready to be adopted, adopted, adopted…..”. Ok enough with the cheesy jokes. But seriously, this girl is a super sweet, personable, quiet, polite and a little sprinkle of puppy. She can be a little shy in new environments, but she soon relaxes and shows her charm. We think she may suit living in a home with children 10 and over and possibly with a play buddy of any size as long as they are willing to play with a greyhound. We also think she may suit living with full timeworkers.

This dog is part of our Assisted Rehoming Program (ARP). We have behavioural and health assessed this lovely dog, and they will remain with their racing owners until they find an adoptive home, at which point they are brought back into GAP. This means that should you be interested in adopting this dog, we are bringing the dog into GAP on the understanding that you will be adopting this particular dog, and not other dogs currently in our care.

Izzy ARP

How pretty is this little girl! Izzy is a sweet and personable girl that can be a little unsure and shy in new environments. She may take sometime coming out of her shell in her new home but once she is apart of the family we think she will thrive. A home with children 10 and over and respectful of boundaries may be ok and another male dog of any size. A place with an outdoor area for her to relax in will be ideal for her as she comes out of her shell. This lovely dog is not suitable for a home with cats.

Reindeer ARP

5 years old

She may not be leading Santa’s sleigh like Rudolf but this quiet achiever is still just as important! She is a shy girl that we think will come out of her shell in a home that understands she just needs time to learn how to be a pet and patience to go at her pace. A quieter home with children 15 and over that are respectful of her boundaries maybe ok and somewhere with a nice yard that she can go and relax in. She may also benefit from a male friend that is medium or larger to help her transition into pet life. This lovely dog is not suitable for a home with cats.

Owen

5 years old

Owen is a big cuddly boy that loves attention and loves a good lean on you to make sure that you give him more pats. Owen can be a bit of a boof head and the fun-loving one in the kennels and we think he will make a lovely pet. He has recently completed his training in GAP's behaviour program and is ready for his forever home. Owen may suit living with another medium or larger dog as a companion, as long as they are respectful of his space when he is playing with his toys as Owen thinks toys are the BEST and doesn't like to share them. Owen has injured his hock in past, and we believe he may get arthritis in this joint as he ages. This doesn't bother him. This lovely dog is not suitable for a home with cats.
