The greys are (still) going viral…!

The appeal of the greyhound as a pet has been evident for years now, and last weekend’s National Greyhound Adoption Day once again demonstrated they’re in demand.

Victoria’s Greyhound Adoption Program attracted another huge crowd to The Meadows track, where 31 beauties found their new besties!

For the month – when adoption fees were waived, and free food was provided – around 120 Victorian homes added a grey to their family unit.

That’s 120 lounging, loyal longdogs who have found their way into hearts and minds, and already we have the photos to prove it.

GAP’s Facebook page (GreyhoundAdoptionProgramVIC) is full of wonderful stories and photos, all of them talking about how well the new additions are fitting in.

It’s just what greyhounds do!

National Adoption Month may be close to over, but that doesn’t mean the adoptions have; there are still greys looking for a spot on your floor… have a look at the website here to see who is available now.

Patrick has the goofiest face (make sure you check out his 'mid shake' flying tongue photos!) it's hard not to fall in love with him. This adorable guy has a very sweet and personable nature and he will use those striking eyes to demand more treats which he loves. Patrick may be ok living with children 10 and over and with another canine pal of any size. He may also be ok for full time workers.

Luca

Perfect Luca, he is sweet, sensitive and soulful. He isn't a massive bubbly personality, but he does give you the warm fuzzies when he comes over and wants to give and receive all the cuddles. He is more of a introvert that loves deeply but doesn't go out of their way to make sure everyone knows it, and honestly, we love that about him. We think this boy will make someone very happy and they will think he is "perfect"! Luca has recently spent time with the behaviour team to prep him ready for the big wide world and he has come away with new skills and his bags packed. We think he may suit living with children 10 and over and maybe even a medium or large canine buddy to live with.

Meet Bronte, a gentle soul with a heart of gold! This quiet and calm girl is a sweet and personable companion who'll bring serenity to her forever home. Bronte loves human interaction and will shower her owners with affection, but she's a bit particular about her personal space. Bronte's looking for a household with no kids or other dogs where she can relax and be herself. She's also sensitive about having her belly touched, so her new owners will need to respect her boundaries. Having completed behavioural rehabilitation, Bronte's ready to find her perfect match - if you're looking for a loving and laid-back companion, Bronte might be the one! Bronte has a low-grade heart murmur that doesn't affect her day-to-day life. Bronte has had a hock fracture repaired prior to GAP entry. She bears weight on this limb and the hock is stable. This lovely dog is not cat tolerant.

Harry ARP

Handsome Harry is just as lovely on the inside as he is on the outside. He is a fairly quiet boy for a 3year old and is very personable and affectionate, he looks up lovingly into his persons eyes. He is a happy chappy, often wagging his tail. He has the cutest big floppy ears. This lovely pup may suit living with or without a canine friend of similar size and children aged 5 years and older. Due to his calm nature, he may suit living in an apartment.

This dog is part of our Assisted Rehoming Program (ARP). We have behavioural and health assessed this lovely dog, and they will remain with their racing owners until they find an adoptive home, at which point they are brought back into GAP. This means that should you be interested in adopting this dog, we are bringing the dog into GAP on the understanding that you will be adopting this particular dog, and not other dogs currently in our care.

He is a friendly, happy go lucky boy that takes everything in his stride. He may suit living with or without a canine pal of medium or large dog and children aged 10 years +.
