GAP leaves its paw print in Ballarat

First time adopters Ana Tenedora and Eman Kubwange (above) could barely contain their excitement at Saturday’s adoption event in Ballarat.
Having made the trip from their home in Bonbeach, they departed with a four-legged friend, stunning four-year-old Kylie.
“She’s our first greyhound,” Ana said proudly. “There were three or four greyhounds here today that we really liked.”
“We spent quite a bit of time interacting with them all and then we had a deep discussion about which one we thought would best suit our lifestyle, and we settled on Kylie.”
Eman said the couple is looking forward to daily walks along their local beach with their new addition.
“There are quite a few greyhounds in our neighbourhood so hopefully Kylie will make a few greyhound friends in the local area. I’m sure she will.”
In excess of 50 people attended the Ballarat event with seven of the 16 greyhounds available for adoption finding loving new homes on the day.
“We spent quite a bit of time interacting with them all and then we had a deep discussion about which one we thought would best suit our lifestyle, and we settled on Kylie.”
Most of the crowd were local, with some making the leap to adopt, while others were very inquisitive, spending quality time with the dogs and asking plenty of questions with a view to potentially adopting in the future.
The greyhounds were all on their best behaviour, showcasing their friendly and docile nature which created a welcoming vibe.
“This is something we’d like to do more often,” said Ballarat Greyhound Racing Club Manager, Jodie Faralla.
“We had plenty of promotion in the local media and as a result a lot of people came along today simply to learn more about the breed.
“Many were meeting greyhounds for the first time and I wouldn’t be surprised if a few more of them end up adopting in the near future.”
Among the other greyhounds to find homes on the day were Fuzzy, Arthur, Bic, Scarlett and Piglett.
