Fred Basset, the greyhound that toured around Australia with comedians Hamish Blake and Andy Lee almost a decade ago, turned 12 this week.
The greyhound dubbed ‘The People’s Dog’ drew record crowds to the racetrack and raised more than $13,000 for Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital in one of the greatest promotions Australian greyhound racing has ever known.
Despite a few grey whiskers, Fred remains a picture of health, and he celebrated his milestone with a cake made of raw beef mince, topped with a gravy icing, diced bacon sprinkles and liver treat candles.
