Glen, Bronwyn & Sabi

Almost 13 years ago, we adopted a very sweet greyhound that was called Emma.

She was whelped on 12/3/2011, and we picked her up from the Seymour site just a week before Christmas in 2012.  It was love at first sight.  She had funny ears that flopped backwards, and she had the sweetest, shyest nature.  We thought the name Emma was not fancy enough for this gorgeous girl, so we renamed her Sabine or Sabi as we mostly called her.

We loved her to the moon and back and she really was the best companion anyone could ask for.  She was so gentle with all my great nieces and nephews and was loved by all who met her.  We used to take her into the aged care facility where my dad lived, and the residents loved her.  We took her everywhere we went.  She loved the car and the beach.  She was so obedient and clever but also funny and engaging.

Sadly, she passed away aged 14 and a half last Monday.  She had a rare tumour develop in her upper jaw.  They could not tell us if it was a fast-growing cancer or a slow-growing cancer.  She then had vestibular disease, but it didn't resolve, and it started looking like she had a brain stem cancer as she was losing weight and symptoms were becoming worse.  Despite all this, she was brave until the end.  We had a wonderful day with her last Monday until the vet came to our home and helped her cross the rainbow bridge.

Thank you, gap for all the amazing work you do with these absolutely beautiful dogs.  We feel so fortunate to have had nearly 13 years of joy with one of your best.

Love Glen and Bronwyn

Joe ARP

4 years old

Happy Joe! This handsome young boy is a friendly and personable young boy that loves his food, toys and zoomies. Joe has had a lot of experience being a pet and is ready to spread his love and joy to his new family. Joe may suit living in a home with children 10 and over and another canine companion of any size. As Joe is still a bundle of fun we think if he has a smaller play buddy they would be better being a bit robust as he loves to zoom! Joe would appreciate a nice backyard to do his sillies in and make you laugh everyday with his antics.

This dog is part of our Assisted Rehoming Program (ARP). We have behavioural and health assessed this lovely dog, and they will remain with their racing owners until they find an adoptive home, at which point they are brought back into GAP. This means that should you be interested in adopting this dog, we are bringing the dog into GAP on the understanding that you will be adopting this particular dog, and not other dogs currently in our care.

Owen

Owen is a big cuddly boy that loves attention and loves a good lean on you to make sure that you give him more pats. Owen can be a bit of a boof head and the fun-loving one in the kennels and we think he will make a lovely pet. He has recently completed his training in GAP's behaviour program and is ready for his forever home. Owen may suit living with another medium or larger dog as a companion, as long as they are respectful of his space when he is playing with his toys as Owen thinks toys are the BEST and doesn't like to share them. Owen has injured his hock in past, and we believe he may get arthritis in this joint as he ages. This doesn't bother him.

Export ARP

2 years old

Export is a very unique name for a very unique dog. While he is an absolute stunner, Export will be looking for a special home as he can be shy at times. He would love to find a calm, confident owner who can show him the way and expose him slowly to pet life. He may suit living in a home with or without another canine companion of any size and children in their teens. He would appreciate a quiet home, but we are sure it wont take him long to blossom into the best form of himself.

Bing ARP

3 years old

Bing is a lovely friendly, personable boy who can have a soft side at times. He tries his hardest to please, but sometimes he can get a little overwhelmed. He would benefit from a family who can build his confidence up and show him that the world isn't such a scary place. He would prefer to live in a quiet home in a quiet neighbourhood. He may be happy to live with a calm, polite dog of any size, though he may also be happy living as an only dog. Bing may be happy living with children aged 10 years and over.
