Is there any room at your ‘Inn’ this Christmas?

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! From mid-December, you have the opportunity to see what it’s like to have a beautiful greyhound in your home and experience the breed firsthand!

We have over sixty greyhounds looking for short term foster care for Christmas.

At Victoria’s Greyhound Adoption Program, we absolutely love our dogs, but we can’t take them all home over Christmas. Can you help?

We would love to find as many foster carers as possible for four to six weeks over the Holidays to provide some love and education to our retired racing dogs, who just want to retire and spread their own special brand of love.

These dogs are keen to learn about life in a domestic home, with people, other pets, noises, and experiences we humans take for granted. Many of them have grown up in a quite different environment.

It’s a bit like us – we’ve worked most of our lives, and the time comes to put our feet up. In a greyhound’s case, all four of them!

Meet our dogs ready for adoption

All greyhounds adopted from GAP are de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and health checked.

Tiger

6 years old

Oh Sweet Tiger, you are such a gentle soul that wants nothing more than a patient home and lifetime supply of twiggy sticks and ear rubs. Tiger has come a long way since starting his GAP journey and recently came back from foster care where he learnt a lot of new things and found some confidence in his time. Tiger has come back with a newfound confidence, and we are so thrilled how far he has come, whilst he still has times where he is unsure, he tries his very best. We think Tiger may suit living in a home with or without another dog medium or larger and children 15 and over. He will do best in a home with a backyard in a nice quiet area as loud noises and lots of traffic are still very scary for him. Tiger may suit living with full time workers. Tiger has anxiety and is on medication to help with this.

Michael

3 years old

No items found.
Michael is a handsome greyhound with a gentle soul and a loving heart. Sweet, affectionate, and playful, he enjoys spending time with his people and is happiest when sharing quiet moments or a bit of fun together. Once he knows and trusts you, Michael's loving nature shines through, and he forms strong bonds with his family. He can be a little cautious at times and is touch sensitive, so he appreciates patient, understanding people who will let him build confidence at his own pace and respect his personal space when needed. Michael is looking for an adult-only home, as he is not suited to living with children, or elderly residents. He could happily live as an only dog, enjoying all the attention for himself, or with a calm medium to large canine companion. Apartment living would not be the right fit for Michael, and he would thrive in a home with space to stretch out, relax, and enjoy a predictable routine. For the right family, this sweet boy will be a loyal and affectionate companion whose trust and friendship are truly rewarding to earn.

Ben ARP

2 years old

Ben is a super sweet, highly intelligent, and gentle soul who is looking for a quiet, patient home where he can truly come out of his shell. He is a shy and anxious boy who is cautious around new people and slow to bond, but for the right person, the reward is immeasurable — once he trusts you, he is deeply affectionate, loving, and playful. His foster carer describes him nuzzling in for cuddles, licking hands, and snuggling close. He does best with a calm, consistent presence and will need an owner (or owners) who are gentle and willing to give him the time he needs to feel safe. He would likely suit a quiet home with older, teenage children, and is happy to live with a calm, polite dog of any size, having bonded beautifully with his foster carer’s small older dog. Once Ben feels secure, his personality truly blossoms. He loves squeaky toys, adores a big plush toy to cuddle up with, and will happily do zoomies around the backyard or chase a toy when he’s comfortable in your company. He is a fast learner — picking up toilet boundaries quickly with gentle guidance — and he settled well with a dedicated safe space of his own, like a large pen, which he never soiled and always retreated to happily. He sleeps through the night and will let you know when he needs to go outside. He is a strong dog on the lead, so a physically confident walker is ideal. He is not a fussy eater but eats best when he feels relaxed and safe. Ben is a truly special dog, and the right patient, gentle home will be so lucky to have him.

Audrea is a beautiful 3-year-old greyhound with a gentle, sweet nature. She’s playful, low energy, and loves the comfort of a familiar routine. Audrea is looking for a patient and understanding home that will give her the time she needs to settle in, build trust, and grow in confidence. Having another friendly greyhound in the home is essential for her, as she takes great comfort from canine companionship and thrives with a confident greyhound friend by her side. Sometimes Audrea may bark when she’s feeling unsure or seeking reassurance, but it’s simply her way of communicating and is never threatening. Once she feels safe and secure, she is a calm and affectionate companion who enjoys being part of the family. If you’re looking for a gentle soul to nurture and watch blossom, Audrea could be the perfect addition to your home. Moro is a friendly, outgoing greyhound who approaches life with confidence and curiosity. He enjoys meeting new people, taking in his surroundings, and being part of the daily routine, while still maintaining the independent nature that greyhounds are known for. Moro is a relaxed and self-assured boy who is happy to spend time with his family but is equally content entertaining himself and enjoying some quiet downtime. Moro is seeking an adult-only home where he can continue to thrive and enjoy a stable lifestyle. He is not suited to living with children or elderly residents. Moro could be placed as an only dog, where he can enjoy all the attention to himself, or with a compatible medium to large dog following a successful introduction. Having successfully completed behavioural rehabilitation, Moro is ready for a fresh start with an adopter who understands his needs and will support his ongoing progress. Due to his history, he cannot live with small dogs, cats, or other small animals. With the right home, Moro will make a loyal and rewarding companion.
