MILLION PAWS WALK: Greyhounds gather in fight against animal cruelty

GREYHOUNDS were among thousands of dogs to trot around Albert Park on Sunday for the annual RSPCA Million Paws Walk.

The Walk to Fight Animal Cruelty has been dubbed Australia’s biggest and best dog event, with members from the Greyhound Adoption Program present to show their support.
Greyhound Racing Victoria’s Communications Manager Phillip Weir was there on the day and said he was pleased to see the GAP stand receive such a great response.
“We had up to 10 greyhounds active at any one time, and many others gravitated toward the GAP tent,” Mr Weir said.
“It was interesting to note how well the many and varied dogs behaved, there was very little barking, and at one stage we had seven dogs or seven breeds and sizes, all drinking from the same water bowl.”
He said the greyhounds there on the day took all of the excitement in their stride.
Volunteers from the Greyhound Adoption Program have had a presence at the walk for more than a decade, and are proud of the relationship they share with the RSPCA.
