More than 70 people and their pet greyhounds gathered at the McCrae Lighthouse on 7 April to honour Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) great, the late Don Graham.
The highly respected and much-loved GAP volunteer sadly passed away on 17 February. Don and his wife Jenny began adopting greyhounds in 2001 and the walk was organised to honour his contribution and dedication to the program and to the breed itself.
Everyone who met Don were in awe of his love and knowledge of the breed and it was this passion that inspired the walk in his honour. The McCrae Lighthouse was one of Don’s favourite locations and was the meeting point on the day before an hour-long walk took place along the beach before people returned for a picnic back at the lighthouse. It was the perfect way to remember such a kind and generous man.
Don and Jenny have long been dedicated volunteers who have fostered many greyhounds and volunteered at countless events including the Royal Melbourne Show and GAP Adoption Days.
Don will be missed by many including all those in the GAP community whose lives he has touched. A plaque will be placed at the GAP property in Seymour in memory of his contribution and dedication to the Greyhound Adoption Program.
