GAP Turns 25

On Wednesday 17th March, Greyhound Adoption Program will celebrate its 25th Birthday.

Since its inception back in 1996, GAP has gone from strength to strength, rehoming almost 10,500 greyhounds. From fostering, temperament assessments, finding forever homes and providing expert follow-up support, GAP has built a reputation for itself as the most successful greyhound adoption program in the world.

The continued success is the tangible result of Greyhound Racing Victoria’s welfare priority; that racing dogs are promised a happy retirement.

Apart from the successful promotion of the greyhound as a pet, particularly suitable for urban living, the program has been the catalyst for a whole community of like-minded greyhound owners who have formed walking groups and social media groups where many new friends have been made. The amount of people who have gone so far as to create Instagram pages dedicated to their greyhound/s is astonishing and puts a huge smile on all our faces every day.

Over the coming days via our social media pages, we will look back on the past quarter-century to see just how far GAP has come whilst also paying tribute to all the volunteers and employees whose tireless work has made GAP what it is today.

You can also look forward to seeing this milestone be celebrated out at Seymour (and there may even be a very special cake just for the greyhounds!)
