VIDEO: Every Greyhound Has a Story – Peggy-Lou Athorn

When a greyhound blood donor saved the life of Peggy-Lou Athorn’s pet bull-terrier, she promised that one day she would repay the debt to the docile breed.

True to her word, she has fostered numerous former racing greyhounds, bringing them into her home to help prepare them for life as a household pet.

“Many, many years ago, my first bull-terrier got quite sick, and needed blood. I asked by chance where it came from and discovered that greyhounds are universal donors,” Peggy-Lou recalled.

“So I promised, vowed and declared that one day I’d help them and pay them back. And all those years later I heard a little voice in my head saying ‘you promised’…and here I am.”

Peggy-Lou said fostering was an extremely rewarding experience.
“Fostering greyhounds is a bit addictive. It’s very much a roller-coaster ride, and that’s always fun. You never know what’s going to come in the door next.”

“I like to juggle the greyhounds with my lifestyle. I try to take them everywhere I go and give them new experiences every day – on the weekends especially – socialising out at restaurants, cafes, dog walks and all sorts of things,” she added.
