Community Engagement Volunteer

Love your GAP greyhound and want to share your experience? Join us as a Community Engagement Volunteer!
So, you’ve adopted a GAP greyhound, fallen in love, and want to tell everyone about it?! Join GAP as a Community Engagement Volunteer! Our volunteer team are widely recognisable in their green shirts at GAP stands all over Victoria. Community Engagement Volunteers attend both industry and external events with their GAP dogs to help show what great pets they make and tell people about GAP and the work we do. We also have shifts available to assist our adoption team in
Please note: We require volunteers to be at least 18 years old.
What is required?
- Community Engagement volunteers can sign up to attend event shifts in areas and times that suit them and their availability. Shifts are generally 2 -3 hours each, so greyhounds don’t get tired!
- New volunteers need to complete an online induction which can be completed via our online learning system in your own time and own pace.
- Your GAP dog must be an appropriate temperament for chilling out at busy events and getting lots of pats from children and visitors. Some of the events we attend also have other dogs walking by.
- Our Community Engagement volunteers are super reliable, punctual, and are great at chatting to event visitors and answering questions about GAP.
- Attending promotional events require volunteers to own their own Greyhound or foster through GAP.
- We ask that Community Engagement volunteers attend at least one event every 6-months.
What events will you attend?
- Volunteers may choose which events to sign up for on the volunteering portal. Throughout the year, we attend many industry events (at the thirteen Greyhound Racing Clubs throughout Victoria), agricultural shows, pet expos, volunteering expos, and community festivals.
- Volunteers may also sign up to help handle Greyhounds at our regular adoption days held around Victoria.
Greyhound Adoption Concierge Volunteers
Greyhound Adoption Concierge Volunteers are part of our Community Engagement role. This role provides vital support at the time of adoption by engaging with potential adoptees and visitors to our kennels. Volunteers also provide information about GAP, including how to adopt or get involved in volunteering. Greyhound Concierge Volunteers are the very important public face of GAP, promoting awareness of our program, providing adoption support, and helping to dispel myths about Greyhounds.
What is required?
- Attending GAP Tullamarine on a scheduled Saturday to assist with adoptions.
- Engage with potential adoptees while GAP staff are processing other adoptions.
- Occasionally assist with preparing a dog for a meet and greet by washing or grooming the dog if required.
- Attend scheduled shifts which are usually 4 hours but could be longer.
- Greyhound Adoption Concierges are super reliable, punctual, and are great at chatting to adopters and answering questions about GAP.
- Volunteers need to have experience of previous ownership, volunteering, or employment with Greyhounds.
