Difficult decision to adopt? No way José

Rob Dipper and his family were part of the crowd at the combined Greyhound Community Day and Adoption Day at Sandown Park.

Rob, Kelly and their children Crystal and Logan, studied the Available Dogs list on the GAP website in the lead up to the adoption session, narrowing their selection down to two.

Once they met José they were convinced his calm demeanour would make him the perfect fit for their lifestyle.

They also met Matt Czynski who is part of the dedicated team of GAP foster carers who look after greyhounds for several weeks to familiarise them with a home environment before they are ready for their forever homes.

Matt, who fostered José, wanted to see who would adopt the loveable pooch and to be on hand to answer any questions from his new owner. Matt started fostering 16 months ago – he liked his first greyhound so much that he decided to keep her. Now that José has moved on he is fostering his third greyhound. He also has a Jack Russell terrier at home.

“José is full of energy, loyal, great with other dogs and kids,” Matt said. “He is also a bit of a thief. He steals food whenever he gets the chance.”

Rob is happy that he was able to find a dog that is right for his family.

“We were looking for a dog that would be a perfect fit for our lifestyle.” They went in search of a calm, well-socialised greyhound that will get along with their other two dogs.
