Atkins family get two for the price of fun

A Narre Warren family has opened their doors to not one but two pet greyhounds.

Ailsa and James Atkins and children Madelyn, Jack and Vanessa had two extra passengers in their car on the drive home from Sunday’s Geelong greyhound adoption day with Moo Moo and Timmy accompanying them for the ride.

The family stopped in Ringwood on their way home to see Ailsa’s mum, with the black and white Moo Moo and Timmy.

“Today is mum’s birthday. Every year we buy her some sort of little black and white cow, so we’ll hand Moo Moo over and say here’s your birthday present,” Ailsa said, quickly adding “but we’re taking her with us when we leave.”

“She was destined to come home with us today.”

Jack and Madelyn are claiming a dog each and straight away began customising the names to Missy Moo Moo and Tiger. There was excitement about Timmy’s racing past – first-place for his one and only race.

Why adopt two greyhounds?

“Friends are fostering a greyhound and I just fell in love with them. I’ve been watching GAP’s website to look at the greyhounds that were going to be here (at Geelong). Every day it was the first thing that came up on my computer screen – and if you’re going to house train one you might as well house train two.”
