Hundreds turn out to celebrate greyhounds at Free Family Day

There wasn’t any greyhound racing happening at Healesville yesterday, but that didn’t stop hundreds of people attending an event to celebrate the greyhound breed.

About 350 people brought along 120 pet greyhounds and enjoyed the social event at which almost everything was free including coffee, crepes, dog washes, a barbecue lunch and canine dental checks.

Renowned greyhound vets Dr. Barbara Backhoy and Dr. Gavin Goble spoke about a number of health and behavioural topics, while a canine dental expert spoke about dental care.

There was plenty of interest in the six market stalls which had plenty of merchandise and apparel, while the walking tours around the beautiful racetrack in the Yarra Valley were also very popular.

Moves are already afoot for Greyhound Racing Victoria’s next celebration of greyhounds event, and that could happen as soon as March 2017.
