Reason to smile as Adoption Day goes ‘Silke’ smooth

Look how happy Silke the greyhound is having just been adopted and being driven away to her new loving home.

Smiles were the order of the day as 31 former racing greyhounds were adopted into homes at an Adoption Day at Geelong on Sunday July 10.

Some 250 people packed into the Beckley Centre to meet 34 greyhounds that were available for adoption on the day, with the three greyhounds that missed out now back at GAP headquarters in Seymour until they find their own special homes.

This was the first Adoption Day held at Geelong, with the Greyhound Adoption Program capitalising on the fine work done by the Geelong greyhound walking group, which meets regularly on the Geelong foreshore to spread the word about how wonderful greyhounds are as pets.

The 31 adoptions is a sensational start to the new financial year, after GAP just announced a record 895 adoptions during the 12 month period ending 30 June.
